The two-year window, and the best player in the world

Leon Draisaitl said it out loud in May, and it became the whole offseason conversation in Edmonton: "We have two years here right now." That is the arithmetic of Connor McDavid’s contract. The eight-year, $100 million deal expired after 2025-26, and instead of cashing in on the open market, McDavid signed a two-year extension at the same $12.5 million annual value, taking less than he could have made so the Oilers could spend the difference elsewhere. The deal runs through 2027-28 and makes him a free agent at 32 in 2028. "I want to win and I want to win here in Edmonton," he said. The clock is on, and everyone in the building knows it.

The 2025-26 season was, by any normal standard, absurd: 48 goals and 138 points in 82 games, the second-highest point total of his career, his sixth Art Ross Trophy, his sixth straight 100-point season, and 306 shots. The Oilers went 41-30-11, finished second in the Pacific, and then lost to the Anaheim Ducks in the first round, their earliest exit since 2021. McDavid played through an ankle injury, managed one goal and six points in six games, and went to the summer with the same headline as every summer lately: the best player alive still chasing the Stanley Cup that has twice slipped away in the Final. He had one more headline in February. At the Milano-Cortina Olympics, his long-awaited Olympic debut, he posted two goals and 13 points in six games, the most points ever in a single Olympic tournament, passing Teemu Selanne’s 11 from 2006, and was named tournament MVP. Canada still lost the gold-medal game to the United States in overtime.

Below are the ten #97 shirts we stock today, and every one is in stock now, not a backorder. The shelf runs from the Oilers Premium home, road and alternate set to the Reverse Retro, the Heritage Classic, the orange Authentic, and the Canada 4 Nations and Olympics pieces. If you want one McDavid jersey, or the whole two-year story, this is the honest full view of what we carry.

Connor McDavid, in a nutshell

Question Answer
Who is Connor McDavid? The captain of the Edmonton Oilers and the best player in the world. A six-time Art Ross Trophy winner with 138 points last season, an Olympic tournament MVP, and a two-time Stanley Cup Finalist still chasing his first ring.
What number does he wear?#97, for his entire NHL career with the Oilers and for Canada. Every jersey in this hub carries #97.
Did McDavid sign an extension?Yes. In October 2025 he signed a two-year, $25 million extension at the same $12.5 million AAV, beginning in 2026-27. It makes him a free agent at 32 in 2028, which Draisaitl has called a two-year window.
What is in stock right now?Ten #97 jerseys from $72.80 to $76.99: the Oilers Premium home, road and alternate set, the Reverse Retro and Heritage Classic specials, the orange adidas Authentic, and the Canada 4 Nations and 2026 Olympics pieces.
Where can I see the full lineup? The Edmonton Oilers collection holds the full team line, and the NHL Jersey collection covers every team.

Why shop a McDavid hub inside the two-year window

Three reasons, and none of them are pressure tactics. First, the window is a stated fact, not a rumor. Draisaitl said the Oilers have two years with the best player in the world, the front office has been told the roster has to get significantly better, and every home jersey from this stretch is part of a defined championship push. Second, the season opens on September 29, and McDavid is coming off the best individual summer of his career: an Olympic tournament MVP with a record 13 points, even in a silver-medal finish. That momentum is the reason the #97 jersey sells out in October and then sits on the secondary market for double. Third, the one-run pieces matter. The Reverse Retro, the Heritage Classic, the 4 Nations designs and the Olympics replica are dated releases that do not come back. The NHL 2026-27 Season Hub has the full schedule and the banner-night context, and the 20 NHL Stars page is a good primer on the rest of the league before you pick a second team.

Premium vs Authentic vs special editions, explained

Oilers jerseys come in tiers that change how the name, number and fabric are put together. Here is the honest difference between what we carry, and who each tier is for.

The short version: Premium is the everyday fan tier, Authentic is the premium fan tier, and the special editions are one-run designs tied to a single event. The six Oilers Premium pieces, home, road, the two alternates, the Reverse Retro and the Heritage Classic, are the standard fan-grade line with the modern fit. The orange alternate is an adidas Authentic with stitched-on twill name and number and a heavier athletic cut. The Canada pieces are event specials: the 4 Nations designs from 2025 and the Bauer replica of the 2026 Olympic jersey.

Tier The look Who it is for
PremiumThe standard fan-grade Oilers jersey in the modern cutThe everyday game-day pick for most fans
adidas AuthenticStitched twill name and number, heavier athletic cutThe premium upgrade in the orange alternate
Reverse Retro / HeritageOne-run designs from 2022 and 2023 with vintage stylingCollectors of the modern throwback line
4 Nations / OlympicsCanada event designs from 2025 and 2026Fans of the international story

A straight answer on the blue question: the home Premium at $76.99 is the one to get. It is the colorway of every big Oilers night, it is the shirt that reads as McDavid from across the arena, and it is the one we sell most. The cream alternate at the same price is the loud modern look, the orange Authentic at $76.99 is the stitched upgrade, and the Canada pieces are the international story. The League Jersey Comparison page goes through how NHL tiers compare to the other leagues, and the jersey authenticity guide covers what to check before you buy anywhere.

Sizing for every cut lives on the Size Guide.

Which McDavid jersey should you actually buy?

If you are buying one shirt

The home Premium in blue at $76.99. It is the signature colorway, it is the everyday fan tier, and it is the one that will still look right when the two-year window closes. If you want one McDavid jersey to own the next era, this is it.

If you want the collector piece

The Reverse Retro 2.0 at $76.99. It was a one-season 2022 design that already disappeared once, and it is the piece fans ask about. The Heritage Classic royal at the same price is the outdoor-game alternative.

If you want the alternate look

The cream alternate Premium at $76.99. It is the loudest colorway in the Oilers set and the one that stands out in a full section of blue. The navy alternate at the same price is the quieter version.

If you want the Canada story

The 4 Nations black at $72.80. It is the design from the tournament Canada won on his overtime goal in 2025, and it is the one other hockey fans recognize. The Olympics red at $72.80 is the record-breaking MVP run from Milano-Cortina.

If you want the stitched upgrade

The orange adidas Authentic at $76.99. Same price as the Premium line, but with stitched-on twill name and number and a heavier cut. It is the premium tier of the Oilers set and the one collectors reach for first.

Frequently asked questions

Which McDavid jersey should I buy?
The home Premium in blue at $76.99 is the essential pick. Collectors should add the Reverse Retro 2.0 at $76.99, and Canada fans should grab the 4 Nations black at $72.80.
What number does Connor McDavid wear?
#97, for his entire NHL career with the Oilers and for Team Canada. Every jersey in this hub carries it.
How long is McDavid under contract with the Oilers?
Through the 2027-28 season. He signed a two-year, $25 million extension in October 2025 at the same $12.5 million AAV, making him a free agent at 32 in 2028. Leon Draisaitl has called the next two years the team's window.
What is the difference between Premium and Authentic jerseys?
Premium is the standard fan-grade tier with the modern Oilers fit. Authentic, like the orange alternate, adds stitched-on twill name and number and a heavier athletic cut. Both are fan-grade, not the exact match-issue fabric of the on-ice versions.
How did McDavid do at the 2026 Olympics?
He made his Olympic debut at Milano-Cortina and posted two goals and 13 points in six games, the most points ever in a single Olympic tournament, passing Teemu Selanne's 11 from 2006. He was named tournament MVP. Canada lost the gold-medal game to the United States in overtime.
Are these the exact jerseys the players wear?
No. These are fan-grade jerseys. The Premium and Authentic tiers replicate the on-ice look with the same colorways, but the fabric and construction are made for daily wear, not game use.
When do the Oilers open the 2026-27 season?
The NHL season opens on September 29, 2026. The full schedule, plus the Carolina banner-night context, is on the NHL 2026-27 Season Hub.
How should I size a McDavid jersey?
Check the Size Guide before ordering. NHL jerseys run true to the size chart, and the guide lists chest measurements so you can match against a shirt you already own.
