What is already settled
Group A1 — France clear, and a straight fight for second
France have ten points from four and have not lost. Italy are on seven and Belgium on six, and those two are the ones contesting the second quarter-final place; Türkiye have lost all four and are out of it. France's position is comfortable rather than mathematical — Belgium can still reach twelve — but France have already beaten them twice, home and away, which is the tiebreak that matters.
Group A2 — two unbeaten clubs, and nobody has blinked
Netherlands and Greece both have eight points and neither has lost a match. They drew 2-2 with each other, so there is no head-to-head separation to fall back on: whoever drops a point in the last two rounds hands the group to the other. Germany, on five, are still mathematically alive and need results elsewhere. Serbia have lost all four.
Group A3 — Spain have already qualified
Spain have won all four, scored twelve and conceded five, and they cannot now finish outside the top two: Croatia, in third on three points, can reach nine at most, and Spain already have twelve. England are second on nine with a goal difference of plus eleven after beating Czechia 3-0 and Croatia 7-0. Croatia's own goal difference reads minus ten. Czechia have lost all four.
Group A4 — Portugal have already qualified, and three clubs want the other place
Portugal have won all four and cannot finish outside the top two either. Behind them Denmark have six points, Norway and Wales have three each, and the second qualifying place is genuinely open. Denmark beat Wales 1-0 on Saturday and lost 4-2 to Portugal earlier in the window, which leaves them a point clear with two to play — and the two clubs that can catch them are the two they have already beaten.
Five things Matchday 4 told us
France 4-1 Belgium: the result that settled Group A1's shape
The biggest scoreline of the window in League A, and it moved France to ten points and left Belgium on six. Belgium had won two of their first three; this was the first time they were beaten properly, and it came at home. France have now beaten Belgium twice in the same campaign, which means the head-to-head cannot rescue Belgium if they finish level.
Spain 2-1 Croatia: a seventh goal conceded in the group, and nobody is close
Spain went to Croatia and won, which makes it four from four and leaves them six points clear of England in second. Croatia have now conceded fourteen in four matches — seven of them against England — and their goal difference reads minus ten. The 2026 edition of this group has been a demonstration rather than a contest.
England 3-0 Czechia: nine points and a plus-eleven goal difference
England answered the 7-0 in Croatia with a controlled 3-0 at home, and their goal difference is now plus eleven. They cannot catch Spain, and they do not need to: second place is theirs to lose, and no other club in the group can reach nine points with a comparable goal difference.
Netherlands 2-1 Serbia: the less noisy half of the A2 story
The Netherlands have not lost and have not impressed, and they lead Group A2 on goal difference alone. Greece, who beat Germany in September and drew 2-2 with the Dutch, are level on points and level on goal difference. Two unbeaten records, four matches each, and nothing to separate them except the fixtures left.
Poland 0-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina: the window's one real upset
Poland had won three of four in Group B4 and went to Bosnia as favourites, and lost to a single goal. It leaves the group tighter than the table suggested going into the weekend, and it is the only result in this window where the club with the better record was beaten by the club below it in the same group.

Shirt demand index: Matchday 4
Built from our own order flow and range depth after the window closed.
Spain and Portugal. Both have won four from four, both are already into the quarter-finals, and both have a home fixture in the November window. Nothing about their last two games changes the shirt you want — which is exactly why the demand is steady rather than spiky.
France, Netherlands and Greece. Three clubs who have not lost and have not yet secured anything. France are the safest of the three; Netherlands and Greece are level on points and goal difference, which makes November a genuine two-game season for both sets of supporters.
Croatia and Czechia. Croatia have conceded fourteen goals in four matches and Czechia have lost all four. Both are historically cheap in October, and one of them at least has a home fixture left in the window.

Our verdict
Four matchdays in, and the competition has sorted itself into three kinds of group: the settled (A3 and A4, where Spain and Portugal have already qualified with two rounds to spare), the contested (A1 and A2, where two points separate the top three and two clubs are level on eight with no head-to-head to separate them), and the finished (three clubs on zero points who will be playing for pride in November). The most interesting number of the window is not the 4-1 in France; it is that Netherlands and Greece are level on points and level on goal difference, which means Group A2 will be decided by whoever blinks first.
