Five things Matchday 2 told us

Spain 4-1 Croatia: seventy seconds set the tone

Lamine Yamal scored inside two minutes, added a second after the hour, and Spain were never behind again after Croatia had equalised through Dion Beljo. Marc Pubill and Nico Williams also scored. It is a rematch of the 2023 final, which Spain won on penalties — and it extends Spain’s unbeaten run to 40 matches.

England 2-0 in Prague, against ten men

Czechia lost Pavel Šulc to a red card in the 23rd minute for a foul on Elliot Anderson, and England eventually made the advantage count: Anthony Gordon headed in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross a minute into the second half, and Harry Kane swept in a loose ball on 69 minutes. It is England’s first win of the campaign after losing 3-2 to Spain at Wembley.

Italy answered the opening defeat with four

Beaten 2-0 at home by Belgium on Matchday 1, Italy went to Türkiye and won 4-1 — the biggest away win by any League A side in this round, and the only one by three goals. It puts Italy level on points with Belgium in Group A1.

France won it in the 88th minute

Belgium had been two minutes from a point in Brussels when Michael Olise went on a run from halfway and finished it. France have six points from two games and have conceded none.

Germany have one point and a problem

Greece had never beaten Germany in ten attempts. They have now, through a deflected Dimitris Kourbelis strike in Augsburg, and Jürgen Klopp is still without a win after two matches. Germany sit third in Group A2 with one point, behind Greece on six and the Netherlands on four.

Shirt demand index: Matchday 2

Built from our own order flow and range depth across the two matchdays, not from a poll.

Tier 1
Tier 1 · biggest swing

Spain and England. Spain have won both games by a combined 7-3 with Yamal scoring twice; England got their first win in Prague. Both markets respond to a winning week.

Tier 2
Tier 2 · steady demand

France, Portugal and the Netherlands. All three are unbeaten, all three have squads whose club shirts sell year round, and all three are in the top two of their groups.

Tier 3
Tier 3 · the value side

Greece and Germany. Greece have never had a better fortnight and their shirts are the cheapest in the group; Germany have one point and a coach under pressure, which historically keeps demand high rather than low.

Our verdict

Matchday 2 sorted the League A groups into two clear halves: Spain, France, Greece and Portugal on six points, and everyone else adrift. The interesting question is what happens on Matchday 3, when the groups play their return fixtures — Germany get Serbia and then the Netherlands, England go to Croatia, and Spain travel to Czechia. The one result that looks least repeatable is Greece in Augsburg, which is exactly why there is no shortage of value on the other side of it.
