The £1.2 Billion Summer: 2026 Transfer Window Review and New Kit Guide

At 11pm BST on September 1, the biggest transfer window in football history closed its books. The Premier League alone spent more than 1.2 billion pounds. Eleven of its clubs broke their own transfer records. Five deals cleared eighty-five million pounds, and the fee that topped them all was paid not in England but in Madrid. The window is shut now, and the season begins with a wardrobe problem: every new superstar needs his new shirt.

The numbers are dizzying. Across the summer, the Premier League's 20 clubs pushed total spending past 1.2 billion pounds, with Chelsea (roughly $476m), Tottenham ($311.5m) and Arsenal ($265m) leading the way. More than 200 clubs around the world broke their own records, and five of the top ten most expensive transfers of all time were completed in the space of eight weeks. The window in numbers

Three of the five biggest deals in the world this summer were Premier League internal transfers, and all three involved English players: Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for 117 million pounds (the English record), Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for 116 million, and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for 100 million. The market's top end has never been so concentrated in one league.

The five deals that defined the window

Jan Diomande to Real Madrid (€140m). The defining statement of the summer. Leipzig's center back became the most expensive African player in history and the cornerstone of Madrid's title defense after their 15th European crown. Paired with Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella, it was the window's loudest signal: the champions went and got bigger.

Morgan Rogers to Chelsea (£117m). The English record fell in west London. Villa's No. 17 became the face of a Chelsea rebuild that spent more than 350 million pounds under new coach Xabi Alonso, with Axel Disasi's replacement arriving in a package that also brought Lacroix, Quenda and Palestra through the door.

Elliot Anderson to Manchester City (£116m). City's record signing, built for a midfield that lost Rodri, Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Nathan Ake in the same window. Anderson arrives from Nottingham Forest as the poster boy of Enzo Maresca's new-look side, and his number 8 is already one of the summer's most-wanted shirts.

Sandro Tonali to Tottenham (£100m). Spurs' club-record deal, the centerpiece of a 300-million-pound window that announced a new era under Roberto De Zerbi. Mateus Fernandes (85 million pounds from West Ham) and Savio (85 million) joined him in the most aggressive Spurs window in decades.

Club by club: new shirts, new chapters

Chelsea. The window's biggest spenders at roughly 350 million pounds. Morgan Rogers broke the English record, and Lacroix, Quenda and Palestra joined a squad being reshaped by Xabi Alonso. The Chelsea collection has the new home shirt for the rebuild.

Tottenham. Tonali, Fernandes and Savio made Spurs the league's most talked-about rebuild, spending north of 300 million pounds in a single window for the first time. Manchester City. Anderson became the club's record signing, but the headline was the exits: Rodri to Barcelona, Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid, Savio to Tottenham, Stones and Ake out too. Manchester United. A midfield rebuild worth more than 150 million pounds: Carlos Baleba (65 million from Brighton), Andrey Santos (48 million from Chelsea) and Youri Tielemans (35 million from Aston Villa). Casemiro left and Ugarte was ruled out long-term, forcing the club to act, while a late left-back chase came to nothing and was pushed to next summer. Arsenal. The champions reinforced without losing anyone: Bruno Guimaraes for 75 million pounds, plus Tzolis, Konsa, Hincapie and Meslier, and a 3-0 opening-weekend win. The Arsenal collection leads with the Champions 26 home shirt.

Liverpool. Jacquet (55 million), Munoz (34.5 million) and an Araujo loan, with the club chasing a PSG double deal late in the window. Liverpool's 2026/27 range is in the Liverpool collection.

Barcelona. The transfer of the summer: Rodri arrived for 60 million euros plus add-ons, funded by selling Ferran Torres to PSG for 50 million and freeing the salary space left by Lewandowski and Rashford. Gordon, Adeyemi and Cancelo completed a window that the press dubbed "the sale in Paris bought the signing in Barcelona."

Deadline day, in one paragraph

And the deadline itself delivered the most chaotic final day in years. Manchester City announced Enzo Fernandez for 125 million pounds, the biggest deal of the day, hours after completing Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for 60 million. Aston Villa landed Ibrahim Mbaye from PSG for 47 million, Newcastle signed Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille for 60 million, and Arsenal loaned Ethan Nwaneri to Borussia Dortmund while Gabriel Jesus moved to Barcelona. Tottenham grabbed Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo from Chelsea late on, Jack Grealish returned to Everton on loan, and Everton's 40-million-pound move for Folarin Balogun collapsed after a medical scare and a change of heart, with United refusing their late loan bid for Joshua Zirkzee. Chelsea, having sold Fernandez, were left furious when Monaco pulled out of a deal for Lamine Camara at the last second.
