Nations League Matchday 2: every League A fixture, kick-off times and what to watch

Four matchdays in thirteen days means matchday 2 comes fast — and Group A3 plays its whole round on one night. Here is every League A fixture for 27–29 September 2026, with times in CET and US Eastern.

Nations League matchday 2, Czechia versus England
Group A3 is the only League A group that plays its entire matchday 2 round on one evening.

Quick answers

  • Matchday 2 runs over three days — Sunday 27, Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 September 2026.
  • There are eight League A matches, spread across 27–29 September.
  • Group A3 plays on one night. Czechia vs England and Spain vs Croatia kick off together on Tuesday 29 September at 20:45 CET.
  • England go to Prague three days after hosting Spain at Wembley on 26 September.
  • England play four fixtures in eleven days — Spain (h), Czechia (a), Croatia (a) and Czechia (h) — between 26 September and 6 October.
  • Spain are the reigning world champions and top of the FIFA ranking, England fourth, France third and Belgium eighth.
  • Portugal are the two-time defending champions; the final four are 9–13 June 2027.
  • Matchday 3 is 1–3 October and matchday 4 is 4–6 October; matchdays 5 and 6 land in mid-November.

The short answer. Matchday 2 is spread across 27–29 September 2026, and the headline is a scheduling quirk: Group A3 plays its entire round on one night, with Czechia vs England and Spain vs Croatia kicking off together at 20:45 CET on Tuesday 29 September. England arrive in Prague three days after Wembley, and then face Czechia again at home on 6 October. Belgians and French meet on the Monday, Germany and Greece open the Sunday session. That is the whole of League A, and it is all inside the same thirteen-day window.

Matchday 2 is bigger than these eight. UEFA also schedule the Leagues B, C and D programmes for the same three days — Ireland away to Israel, Ukraine in Georgia, Scotland away to Switzerland among them. The eight above are the whole of League A, and the only set with title implications this early.

The five fixtures to watch

Czechia vs England — the Group A3 double-header

Prague, 20:45 CET on Tuesday 29 September. This is the first of two England-Czechia meetings in eight days, and it is the away leg: England arrive from Wembley, where they play Spain on 26 September, and go back to Wembley to face Czechia again on 6 October. Two matches against the same opponent, one at home and one away, inside a window where England also travel to Croatia.

Spain vs Croatia — the other half of the same night

In Spain, also 20:45 CET on 29 September. Group A3 is the only group that plays both of its matches on the same evening, and these are the other two teams in it. Spain are the reigning world champions and the world No. 1; Croatia are the side that makes this group the hardest of the four.

Belgium vs France — the top-ranked fixture of the round

Brussels, Monday 28 September at 20:45 CET. This is the only matchday 2 fixture between two top-ten nations, and it is the one that sets the tone for Group A1. Belgium are ranked eighth, France third, and the two play again in France during the November window.

Germany vs Greece — the closer of the A2 Sunday

Germany, Sunday 27 September at 20:45 CET. Germany and Greece meet in the later of the two Group A2 fixtures, with Serbia vs Netherlands kicking off earlier the same day. On ranking, A2 is the most open of the four League A groups.

Norway vs Portugal — the holders in Oslo

Oslo, Sunday 27 September at 20:45 CET. Portugal are the two-time defending champions and the side to beat in Group A4; Norway host them on the same day that Denmark vs Wales opens the round at 18:00 CET.

Why the same-night Group A3 round is the story

In most rounds the league phase spreads itself out over three days; this one compresses. UEFA has put both Group A3 matches into a single evening, kicking off together at 20:45 CET on Tuesday 29 September. By the time the second half starts in Prague, the second half in Spain is starting too. It is the round where a group that would normally take a full weekend to resolve is over in ninety minutes.

It also produces the tightest schedule in League A. England play Spain at Wembley on 26 September, travel to Prague three days later, then go to Croatia on 3 October and host Czechia at Wembley on 6 October. Four matches, three opponents, eleven days — and one of those away trips, in Rijeka, is being played behind closed doors after a UEFA sanction. Rotation is not a plan for Thomas Tuchel’s squad here; it is a requirement.
