What to know before Thursday night
Two full weeks are in the books and no team has a bye yet — the league’s first bye weeks do not arrive until Week 5, which means every club has three games on its record by Monday night. That matters more for the jersey market than it sounds: Week 3 is the first window where buyers react to a team’s actual form rather than its preseason reputation, and the bandwagon starts moving.
It is also the week the NFL goes back to South America. Baltimore and Dallas meet at the Maracanã, the 78,000-seat stadium in Rio de Janeiro, for the first NFL game ever played in the city — kickoff is 5:25 p.m. local time, 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS. Brazil has hosted regular-season games in São Paulo in each of the past two seasons, and the league has committed to at least three more games in Rio over the next five years. Ravens at Cowboys, Rio de Janeiro. The week’s headline is also its biggest retail event. Falcons at Packers, Thursday night. Eagles at Bears, Monday night. An NFC matchup at Soldier Field, free over the air on ABC. Philadelphia is a permanent top-five jersey market and Chicago’s home crowd has bought in early — a Monday night close that keeps the week’s buying window open until the final whistle.
