Ballon d’Or 2026: The Shortlist, Who Should Win, and the Shirts
The 2026 Ballon d’Or is decided in London on 26 October — the first ceremony outside Paris and the 70th edition of the award. Here is the shortlist, the four genuine contenders, and every nominee’s shirt we stock.

Ballon d’Or 2026: quick answers
- When is the 2026 Ballon d’Or awarded? Monday 26 October 2026, at a ceremony in London — the first time it has been held outside Paris.
- Who is the favourite? Harry Kane is the odds-on favourite after 61 goals in 51 games for Bayern Munich and a second European Golden Shoe.
- Who else can win it? Rodri (World Cup winner and tournament MVP), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Champions League MVP), Kylian Mbappé (the World Cup’s all-time leading scorer), Lamine Yamal and last year’s winner Ousmane Dembélé.
- How many players are on the shortlist? Thirty, announced on 8 September 2026. Paris Saint-Germain have nine nominated, the most of any club.
- Why is the ceremony in London? It is the award’s 70th edition and London is a tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, who won the first Ballon d’Or in 1956.
- Who won last year? Ousmane Dembélé won the men’s award in 2025; Rodri won it in 2024.
- Can I buy shirts for the nominees? Yes — 24 of the 30 nominees are in stock at Pro Kit Vault, in fan and player editions, with names and numbers printed to order.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or: the four genuine contenders
Thirty players are nominated, but the award comes down to a handful of cases — and they pull in different directions: trophies, goals, and the summer tournament.
| Contender | The case for | The case against |
|---|---|---|
| Harry Kane Bayern Munich | 61 goals in 51 games, a second European Golden Shoe, and England reaching a World Cup semi-final. The purest goalscoring season of the year. | No Champions League and no World Cup. Voters have punished that before. |
| Rodri Spain captain | Captained Spain to the World Cup and was named the tournament’s best player. Already a Ballon d’Or winner, in 2024. | A quieter club season than the other three, and one fewer highlight reel. |
| Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Paris Saint-Germain | Named player of the tournament as PSG defended the Champions League, with 10 goals in 16 games in the competition. | Georgia were not at the World Cup, and the award still weighs the summer heavily. |
| Kylian Mbappé Real Madrid | Became the World Cup’s all-time leading scorer with 10 goals at the 2026 tournament. | France did not win it, and his club season was not a trophy season. |
| Lamine Yamal Barcelona | A World Cup winner at 19, and one of the most complete wide players in the game already. | Spain’s run was shared across the squad; he is also nominated for the young player award. |
| Ousmane Dembélé Paris Saint-Germain | The holder, and a Champions League winner again with PSG. | No winner has gone back-to-back since Messi in 2019, and PSG’s story is spread across nine nominees. |
How we would vote
- 1. Harry Kane. Sixty-one goals in 51 games is the single most productive season in Europe, and the Golden Shoe is a tiebreaker voters have respected for decades. Missing the Champions League hurts, but nobody else combined that volume with a trophy.
- 2. Rodri. Captaining Spain to the World Cup and being named the tournament’s best player is the biggest single achievement on the list. If the summer outweighs the club season, he wins again.
- 3. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The best player in the Champions League, on a team that won it again. The only reason he is third is that his summer was empty.

The shelf angle: what winning does to a shirt
We are a jersey shop, so we watch this award differently: a win moves stock within hours. Our catalogue happens to be deepest exactly where the shortlist is strongest — 24 of the 30 nominees have their own range, from Bruno Fernandes (188 styles) and Erling Haaland (184) down to Harry Kane (19) and Thibaut Courtois (13). The narrower the range, the faster it sells through after a podium finish.

Shirt demand index: the shortlist, tiered
Built from our own order flow and range depth — not from a poll. It moves the morning after the ceremony.
Kane, Rodri, Kvaratskhelia and Mbappé. Whoever lifts the trophy on 26 October, their name is the most-searched in football the next morning — and Kane’s range is the narrowest of the four.
Yamal, Dembélé, Bellingham, Vinícius, Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and Rice. The deepest ranges we carry, with steady demand all season long.
Pau Cubarsí, Yan Diomande and Ferran Torres — young-player nominees with smaller collections, and exactly the shirts collectors ask for after a ceremony.

Our verdict
Kane has the season, Rodri has the summer, Kvaratskhelia has the Champions League. If the voters reward the most complete year of football, Kane becomes the first English winner since Michael Owen in 2001. If they reward the biggest single achievement, Rodri wins it for the second time in three years. Either way, the ceremony in London on 26 October will settle a genuinely open race — which is more than most years can say.
